OPPA Youth Prevention Showcase

Youth prevention leaders, OPPA members, and other prevention advocates celebrated Ohio's teens and their terrific work in prevention on December 13, 2023 at the OPPA Youth Prevention Showcase.

The Showcase featured spotlights on three innovative youth-led prevention initiatives taking place in Ohio, through short videos created by local and state-level youth-led or youth-engaged prevention programs. The three prevention initiatives and the youth-led prevention groups featured this year:

• Butler County Youth Summit, implemented by Agents of Change
• Marijuana PSA, implemented by Akron UMADAOP Youth-Led Prevention
• Youth Summit, implemented by BATS (Bringing Awareness to Students) [Clark County]

The Showcase also featured presentation of the 2023 OPPA Youth Prevention Awards, honoring Ohio teens who exemplify excellence in prevention and one youth-led prevention program. 

The 2023 OPPA Youth Prevention Award recipients:

• Devin Duncan, OPPA Youth Prevention Excellence Award
• Reese Hornick, OPPA Youth Prevention Advocate Award
• Akron UMADAOP Youth-Led Prevention, OPPA Youth Prevention Organization of the Year Award
• Griffin Greear, OPPA Youth Community Champion Award
• Brianna Johnson, OPPA Youth Community Champion Award

"The videos created by the three youth-led prevention groups showcased specific prevention interventions, exemplifying initiatives our state's young people are leading at the local level," notes OPPA President Holly Zweizig. "Presentation of the OPPA Youth Prevention Awards, honoring some of Ohio's exceptional youth prevention leaders, let us shine a spotlight on teens who are changing their schools and communities."

The Showcase was emceed by Katie Doll and Miranda Kochur, young adults who were youth-led prevention leaders in high school and are both former OPPA Youth Prevention Award recipients.

As OPPA's signature fundraising event, the Youth Prevention Showcase is supported by our event Sponsors -- organizations and businesses engaged in or supportive of prevention -- as well as the Showcase Host Committee.
